Born in Chicago, SueAnn Carwell is the daughter of Bob“Sticks” Carwell, a well sought after drummer who played clubs in Chicago including the Blue Note. Her father played with some of the greatest icons such as Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, and Buddy Guy. He truly was a “rolling stone” and eventually brought his family to Minneapolis where he introduced SueAnn by having her sing at clubs at a young age.
A natural talent, SueAnn had the seasoning of a veteran performer and a “chameleon-like” vocal ability to be able to bring an authentic and rich sound to any genre of music she sang. Her voice has captured and enthralled audiences since she first started singing with her father and winning talent shows in her hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Known as the First lady of Soul of MPLS, SueAnn caught the attention of Prince who did a few demos with her that ended in her subsequently being signed by Warner Bros. Records and relocating to Los Angeles. While in L.A. Carwell arranged and sung with such icons as; James Brown, Rod Stewart, Annie Lennox, Zac Harmon, Celine Dion and Patti LaBelle, and the list goes on.
As an experienced artist, writer, producer and vocal arranger with over 30 years of experience in the music industry and many successes in the R&B, Pop, and Jazz Genres, she has finally forayed into the Blues. Her life experience and journey has made her voice, soul, and testimony all the richer to be able to bring the original Blues sound to a new level that will surely make this musical experience for the listener one to enjoy and treasure for a lifetime.
Renowned musician Jesse Johnson, the brilliant guitarist known for his involvement in history making music projects such as the band “The Time” has again teamed up with SueAnn to create her new album full of breathtaking soul, wonderful blues, and heartfelt gospel.
